La Esperanza Granada

We believe in giving a hand up, not a handout.

Located in Granada, Nicaragua, La Esperanza Granada is a volunteer group focusing on children’s education. We started in 2002 in one small village on the outskirts of Granada, and now help more than 2000 children in the poorest areas.

Education : Our main project is helping improve education for the children living in rural areas on the outskirts of Granada. Volunteers help in the kindergarten class or tutor children in the early grades with their reading, writing or math.

We also run projects concerning  Building, High School and University sponsorship.

Our office is located in Granada on the Calle la Libertad, one and a half blocks from the Parque Central, towards the lake, on the left hand side of the street. The building is a white and brown– the third building from the corner, and you will see our sign on the doorway.   The schools we work in are in the poorest barrios of Granada, volunteers either walk, bicycle or take the local buses to get to the schools.

We have some low cost housing available. The houses all have fully equipped kitchens, fans, washing machines, TV’s, wi fi Intertnet connection and are situated in the historic town center of Granada, a short walk from our office. The charges are $23 per week per person in a dorm style room, $46 for a double room for a couple and  $43 for a single room.

Volunteers work 5 – 6 hours per day, four to five days per week. We normally ask that you stay a minimum of 4weeks, though this can vary at certain times of the year. It may depend on the projects you will be helping with, your level of Spanish, your previous experience and our current needs. We welcome long term volunteers, and often have volunteers who stay 6 months and longer.
