OK, they call me "bruni." It can make me uncomfortable. The wonder is that there are not more frequent sharper challenges. Hospitality is a matter of national pride,... read more!
My experience at the Kitega Centre in Uganda
I didn’t really know what to expect when I arrived in Uganda to spend a month at the Kitega Community Centre. The first thing that you notice when you arrive at the centre is how happy the kids are. When the car pulled into the centre all the kids crowded round to see the new ‘mzungu’ that had arrived. They all want to give you a hug and hold your hands.
After a few days at the... read more!
Eva's reflections on volunteering in Tanzania
I can still remember the feeling I had while sitting in JFK airport awaiting my first flight of the long journey ahead of me before I would arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport. I had no idea what to expect and I could almost already feel a change within myself. There was such a mix of emotions: fear, angst, nervousness… but most of all the excitement. I had never been that far from home for that... read more!
Feedback from 2 volunteers on a Rural Community Project in Nepal
For my daughter's 18th birthday I promised to take her anywhere or do anything she wanted. When the answer was I want to do volunteer working Nepal it literally brought tears to my eyes.
I was impressed with the projects available and my daughter and I opted to work at the Daycare Center in the Chitwan region. Admittedly, we were both a bit scared of the unknown on our way out to Nepal... read more!
Who is GIVE?
I had always dreamed of going on a volunteer trip when I was younger, but none of my dreams came close to the experience I had this past summer with GIVE. When I first signed up for a trip, I had no idea what to expect. GIVE’s website said they wanted “to inspire growth, empower the marginalized, and encourage sustainable change worldwide.” At the time, though, that phrase just looked like a... read more!
Diary of a Volunteer in South Africa
First day of school! And it actually is as exciting as a first day of school when I was a kid. Today we went to the Bulugha school and helped with the preschool class. Learning the names will be quite the task, let alone pronouncing them correctly, but that’s the goal. Xhosa is the language spoke by most. Xhosa incorporates all types of tongue clicking that has so... read more!

What a great experience that was!!!
It has been very rewarding! I have so enjoyed the time with the children, getting to know them and sharing in their excitement of learning new things. I have had the most fortunate luck in meeting and spending time with the warmest family. It has been a great 2 weeks! I wish I would stay for longer and would definitely consider coming back again. I even got to go a wedding! What a great... read more!
I look forward to the day when new school is built…I will be back to be a full time teacher!!!!
I had the pleasure of working in 3 programs. So I had a good variety of experience. The Orphanage was difficult emotionally, but after the first week, I was hooked to all the lovely children. Those children have great potential, so any & all gift/ supplies/ treats anything would be greatly appreciated by the kids. The Government school was another fabulous experience. I loved working with... read more!
I really enjoyed the summer program experience in Jaipur
I really enjoyed the summer program experience in Jaipur. Sankalp not only provides a comfortable and welcoming environment for volunteers but also a safe and friendly home. I love teaching the kids and I love it more when they learned something new from me. The street program is very meaningful in my point of view because these children, just as any other children in any country deserve a... read more!
