The Traineeship for TEFL Teacher Trainees
An EFL teacher. This is a challenging Opportunity for a (newly) qualified teacher to teach 20-25 hours a week in Sri Lanka get practical Teaching Experience. The opportunity would be ideal for either a (newly) qualified CELTA teachers or TEFL teachers. Experience is desirable though not essential. We offer this program as a training facility for motivated people wanting to complete their Online TEFL courses, as well as gain valuable teaching experience at the same time.
With regards to the classes, they are small, the students very eager to learn and we really feel this would be an amazing opportunity for new TEFL trainees to gain practical experience. A professional approach is the key as is a personal desire to play a major part in this new and exciting project. Teachers must be team players prepared to share their experience with those less experienced. The objective of the trainee ship is to offer the trainee the opportunity to gain experience as an English teacher to children and to gain knowledge about learning behavior, classroom routines, teaching techniques and the Srilankan culture and language.
The trainee ship is structured into three parts :
First Month: Getting to know the daily routine in a classroom and learn about the abilities and needs of children during a regular school day. The trainee will spend the first month of the trainee ship as an observer in a K3 class, spending time with the children from morning to afternoon.
Second Month: Introduction of English lessons for children of different ages. The trainee will spend the second month of the trainee ship with a professional English teacher as an observer taking on small parts of the English lessons towards the end of the month. The trainee will study teaching techniques, learn to prepare teaching material and do lesson planning.
Third Month: English teaching, the trainee will spend the third month teaching complete lessons under the supervision of experienced English teachers. The trainee will get the assignment to teach one whole project with given vocabulary and structures.
This project will include the whole lesson planning, preparation of teaching material (including flashcards, worksheets, homework, poster and some art or craft) and the drill of the taught vocabulary.

Classes normally take place for 20 hours , at least 2 hours per day , but students will love for extended teaching hours upon the convenience of the teacher.
Accommodation is provided either at a private lodging which will at the walking distance to the project , or at a host family from which the volunteer will be more exposed to the Sri Lankan culture , final option being at a youth hostal.
Volunterr will be provided with all facilities as per Sri Lankan luxurious standards.
If he/sje is not satisfied with their first choice of accommadation , the project coordinators will transfer them to another accommodation.
This program may have a Reservation Fee, which is included in the total cost and is due once you commit to the program, with the remaining Program Fee balance due 30 days before your arrival date.

Our Prices are fixed and will not change as per seasonal considerations , but exceptions will be made for Turtle conservation Project and the Gem and Lapidary Project which will not be similar to normal project fees.

How To Sign Up
Signing up is a three-step process:
- Fill out an Inquiry Form. Please note: submissions must be made at least 4 weeks prior to your prospective start date.
- A member of the Volunteer Global team will get in touch with you to confirm program availability for your chosen dates, and schedule an interview if needed.
- Once your interview is complete, you will be notified to submit your Reservation Fee to reserve your program and schedule. Your final Program Fee is due at least 4 weeks prior to in-country arrival in order to reserve your placement.
This is a pilot program. As part of our program development process, we ask our first groups of participating volunteers to provide additional feedback to assist us in ensuring the most rewarding experience possible in cooperation with Swarnabhoomi for their associated programs.
