Criminology Work Experience

Criminology Work Experience

This Work Experience Programme covers various aspects of the exciting field of criminology.

You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in the following areas:

Community Police Forum (1-2 days) - This  civilian forum is working in partnership with the local police and aims to create and maintain a safe and secure environment for citizens living in the area.

The Department of Community Safety (1–2 weeks) – this department is responsible for civilian oversight over Police and Traffic Management as well as crime prevention and community police relations in the Western Cape.

FAMSA (1-2 days) – this society is made up of trained counsellors, and often provides counselling to victims of crime

Law Firm (1-2 weeks) - Criminal law and criminal defence services are provided by a group of professionals who are specialists in the area of criminal law and provide support for persons facing criminal charges.

Location

Knysna is based in one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa. Stunning views, impressive mountain passes, lush green forests and white sandy beaches.

Knysna itself is nestled on the shores of the Knysna estuary - or Knysna Lagoon, as it is more commonly known. It's the most biologically diverse estuary in South Africa and home to the Knysna Seahorse, the most threatened seahorse species in the world. Knysna is also an avenue to the Tsitsikamma Forest, which stretches from just west of George to the Tsitsikamma River near Humansdorp. This indigenous forest is home to numerous fauna and flora. The forest also houses the worlds's most southerly elephants. Sadly, with only a handful of elephants left, the forset elephants are rapidly becoming part of Knysna's history, rather than Knysna's nature.

Schedule

The working hours vary but your day may start as early as 8:00-9:00 and finish at 17:00-17:30. You will work 5 days a week, leaving you two free days to explore the area.
