Assist in a local children center/Orphanage

Assist in a local children center/Orphanage

Volunteers are placed at orphanages and care centres where they are positioned to various types of duties on rotational source. They will spend part of their time to provide friendship to both orphans and children in the generously proportioned communities. Volunteers will also help orphans with the organisation of activities and also have the opportunity to listen to the life challenging stories of the orphans and serve to them as a mentor. The volunteers will be able to share stories too in a private one -on-one context, and potentially pose to orphans as true role model.
Volunteer tasks include:
• Teaching and helping in daily life skills
• Help with learning concepts such as English and mathematics
• Instruct in internet/computer usage and skills
• Creative play/art, e.g. Drawing/sketching, etc.
• Music and dance
• Participate in and teach new types of sports and games

Location

Accommodations

All of our accommodations are within a short walking distance to the project site. Volunteers will stay with a homestay arrangement or within the project. Housing will be arranged on a case by case basis to ensure the comfort of each volunteer. Private rooms are available upon request. We can also recommend nearby hostels for volunteers who choose to find their own housing. If volunteers choose to arrange their own housing in one of the nearby communities they will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the project and any other extra charge. Amenities include:

  • Access to clean, potable water at accommodations and the project site.
  • Water is available at accommodations, and there are several options in town for volunteers to do their laundry.
  • Internet is available in the town; however, Internet service in local communities in Kenya can be unreliable. There are several Internet cafes in town with good rates and we can assist you with recommendations.
