I'm Sarah Van Auken (hi, SVA!). I created Volunteer Global in order to educate prospective volunteers about international service programs. I research every host organization I can find and provide the basic facts every volunteer would like to know, including the types of work, locations, trip length, accommodations, and more.
I graduated from the George Washington University, and have worked for four years with an international volunteer agency* in returned volunteer support. There, I learned a pretty good amount about the process of choosing a program, making sure that program is right for you, what to expect in the field, how to readjust upon return home, and even use that volunteer experience to your benefit in the job search and elsewhere.
I stuck around DC after I graduated, and now I spend my time researching and adding new articles and tidbits to VG, volunteering with local groups, working out, playing saxophone, and finding cool new places to be a nerd and type away on my laptop.
If you'd like to get in touch with me, please email me at info@volunteerglobal.com or use the contact form at the top of this page.
Oh yeah, that picture there? Sorry it has nothing to do with volunteering. I just like that one.
*On that note, Volunteer Global is in no way affiliated with any agency, public or private.
